Perhaps your grandfather spent his retirement making things in his woodshop. Maybe you’re tired of spending too much money on mass-produced items that don’t seem to last more than a couple of years. You might just find that you love getting creative and you’re looking for a new hobby.
Whatever the case, however you developed an interest in woodworking, welcome to one of the most enjoyable and rewarding hobbies on the planet. At Long Island Woodworking Supply, we’re happy to offer a number of essential woodworking tools, as well as the knowledge you need to put them to good use. That’s why in today’s post we’ll be sharing a few tips for beginning woodworkers that we wish we’d heard when we first started. Keep reading to learn more!
One of the best pieces of advice you’ll get is that you should know that you don’t need a shop outfitted with the latest (and most expensive) tools. Instead, it’s important to know that with a little creativity, there are a number of ways to tackle a project. Just because you don’t have a particular tool doesn’t mean that you can’t get creative with something you do have. (Remember to be safe, and don’t make any cuts that make you nervous.)
When you first get interested in woodworking, chances are that you’ll find about a million different projects that you want to tackle. This is understandable, but our advice is to build a firm foundation with the basics. Learn how to use your tools and although every new project is its own learning experience, you’ll be setting yourself up with the fundamentals that you’ll use frequently down the road.
Last, but certainly not least, probably the best advice we can give you is to just get started. It’s easy to put things off until tomorrow, but trust us when we say that you’ll be happier if you start today. Rather than slumping into the couch for a night of television, head out to your shop and do something. You’ll always be happier that you did something instead of just thinking about doing it.
